Control panels & switchboards

The control panel is where the project comes together. Electrical design, components and software have to work in a single build. We build control panels in our own switchboard workshop from an approved 3D drawing, test them in our FAT area and deliver them with documentation that matches what was built.

Control panels for automation, machines and plants

We build panels you can review in 3D and test at FAT before they are delivered.

The control panel is the point in the delivery where most decisions converge: component selection, sizing, heat calculation, space constraints, labelling and the interfaces to installation and software. Late changes in the project often end up as changes in the panel. That is why we build from a drawing package you have approved in 3D — and test the panel while it is still in the workshop.

Control panels are designed in EPLAN in close cooperation with production. Changes from the workshop are written into the drawing package as new revisions, so the as-built documentation matches the panel that was delivered — terminal by terminal.

The build follows the drawing package: component placement from the approved 3D layout, cable routing with room for later extensions, and labelling of components, terminals and cables to the agreed standard. Heat dissipation and sizing are calculated during design, so the panel keeps its operating temperature in the environment where it will be installed.

Component selection is free and independent. We size according to the plant, component availability and your maintenance, and you can see the reasoning in the open cost calculations. If a component is under- or oversized in the brief, it is caught and corrected during design.

Free component selection is also a matter of supply security. If a component is discontinued or has a long lead time, we can choose an alternative that is documented and justified in the same way — without changing the panel's function or your ability to service it.

Control panels are built and tested in Vejle, Esbjerg and Szczecin from the same drawing package and to the same documentation requirements. The task and the delivery time decide which workshop builds your panel — not geography. If the scope grows along the way, production can be split across several workshops.

The interfaces to the rest of the delivery are designed into the panel. Terminal strips and labelling match the installation's cable schedule, the software's I/O list matches the panel's physical build, and the FAT is carried out against the programme that will run on the plant. On delivery, the installer and the commissioning engineer therefore receive a panel that matches the documentation — and the rest of the plant.

We build control panels for automation projects, machine controls and process plants — one-off and repeat deliveries for machine builders and OEMs, and panels for industry in general. For repeat deliveries the drawing package is already approved, and every panel is built and tested from the same basis — so machine number twenty gets the same panel as machine number one.

Whether it is one panel or the first twenty in a production series, the same drawing package, the same labelling principle and the same test plan lie behind it — so you know exactly what you are getting, every time.

A panel delivery is not just the panel itself — it is the complete basis that comes with it:
– Approved 3D layout and electrical schematics in EPLAN
– Bills of materials (BOM) and open cost calculations with component justifications
– Panel built, labelled and wired according to the drawing package
– FAT to a test plan, with test report
– As-built documentation that matches the delivered panel

The panel can stand alone as a delivery — or form part of a larger responsibility with us, where software, installation and service are built in from the design stage. Interfaces and documentation stay connected, wherever the line is drawn.

What we build

The panels we build

Three types of task: the control panel in an automation project, the large power and distribution boards, and the smaller boards for installations.

Control panels for machines and process plants

The panel that brings together PLC, I/O, motor control and safety circuits in a single build. It is built from an approved 3D layout and electrical schematics in EPLAN, tested in our FAT area and delivered with as-built documentation that matches the panel as built.

Effekt- og fordelingstavler — ikon

Power and distribution boards

Main and distribution boards for larger plants, where power, selectivity and space constraints have to fit together. We size according to the plant and select components freely, so the board fits the installation rather than a fixed product range.

Smaller boards for installations

Site distribution boards, sub-distribution boards, charging boards for e-mobility and special builds are made in our switchboard workshop, Tech Eltavler. The same drawing package, the same labelling principle and the same documentation requirements as for the large panels.

Our expertise in this area

FAT, UL and series deliveries

Three parts of the delivery you can read more about.

FAT af styretavler — ikon

01 · FAT of control panels — testing with customer participation

The panel is tested in our dedicated factory acceptance test (FAT) area to a test plan you know in advance. Testing takes place separately from the rest of production, so you can follow it without disturbing other work in the workshop. You are welcome to take part: walk through the functions, inspect the build and see the results while faults can still be corrected in the workshop. The test report accompanies the delivery.

02 · UL-listed panels for the US market

If the plant is going to the USA, we design and build the panel to UL requirements from the first revision — component selection, labelling, clearances and documentation comply with UL508A, so the panel can be certified and shipped without rework afterwards.

03 · Series deliveries for machine builders and OEMs

The first panel is built from a drawing package you have approved. From there, every subsequent panel is built and tested from the same basis — the same labelling, the same documentation and the same test plan — so machine number twenty gets the same panel as machine number one.

Transparency

Follow your panel

Six stations show where your panel is in the process, and what remains before it can be delivered.

1

Drawing package approved

3D layout and electrical schematics are approved before anything is ordered.

2

Components ordered

The components from the approved package are ordered.

3

Assembly in the workshop

The panel is built and labelled according to the drawing package.

4

Testing & FAT

The panel is tested to the test plan — you are welcome to take part.

5

Documentation

As-built documentation is updated to match the panel as built.

6

Delivery

The panel is delivered with documentation that matches the rest of the plant.

Do you have a panel project — one panel or a series?

Send us the bill of materials, the drawing or the description, and we'll get back to you with how we would build the panel.

Frequently asked questions

What customers ask most often

Can we see the panel before delivery?
Yes, twice: the 3D layout is approved before production, and at FAT you review the physical panel against the test plan.
Are you tied to particular component suppliers?
Component selection is free and independent. We size according to the plant and your maintenance, and the reasoning is set out in the open cost calculations — so you can see why a choice was made, not just what it costs.
What if the project grows along the way?
Capacity can keep pace. Vejle, Esbjerg and Szczecin produce from the same drawing package and documentation requirements, so a growing project or a tight schedule can be split across several workshops without compromising on quality.
Do you also build distribution boards and site distribution boards?
They are produced by Tech Eltavler, our sister company's switchboard workshop for precisely site, consumer and distribution boards. We put you in direct contact with the right people, so you don't have to start over somewhere else.
